Thursday, June 26 2008 -- The 2009 F-1 schedule includes Abu Dhabi, a first, to host the season ending Grand Prix. Announced on Wednesday by the World Motor Sport Council, the Abu Dhabi event is slated for November 15th, and a further 19 races have been provisionally scheduled for that season.
Abu Dhabi is the first new city to feature the last race of the season, in the F-1 schedule, in the last 22 years. The last city to hold the event was Brazil.
Some other changes seen in the new schedule include the British GP being switched to June, before the French GP and Turkey moving to August, probably due to poor attendance last season. Another significant change is the exclusion of the U.S. from the schedule.
