In celebration of the Red Bull MotoGP Championship to be held at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, in California in July, Monterey Peninsula has announced its plans to hold a weeklong series of motorcycle activities.
Some of the activities slated to be a part of the Meet include, Italy's popular vintage road rally on two wheels, a Moto Concorso, the Motogiro, a series of lectures and seminars on design and high performance as well as an auction of vintage motorcycles by Mid America Auctions.
CEO of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Gill Campbell said, "I am proud to announce the first annual motorcycle festival" "The Meet" at Monterey Peninsula. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the MotoGP Championships this July, than involving the entire Monterey Peninsula in a weeklong rally of motor sports excitement".
Motogiro America will be the inaugural event and also the highlight of The Meet. David M. Gross, founder of Motogiro America as well as The Meet said, "Monterey is the high performance motorcycle capital of America and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the dream track of enthusiasts everywhere. Many Italian riders are thrilled at the prospect of having the opportunity to ride a lap at Laguna, it's a once in a lifetime event".
Covering a classic motorcycle timed tour, the Motogiro America tour covers nearly one hundred miles each day, during its five day route. It explores Monterey Peninsula's country roads, passes, foothills and includes stunning Pacific panoramas.
Co-founder of The Meet, Burt Richmond remarked, "Motogiro America 2008 is part of a week of motor sport excitement on the Monterey Peninsula leading up to Red Bull MotoGP weekend at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca". He further promised a never seen before event which will attract visitors from the entire Central Coast area.
Starting on Friday the 11th of July, the event will begin with a symposium on Italian design and a Moto Concorso, which is being organized by Ducati Vintage Club, slated for the next day. The Mid America auctions are also scheduled for Saturday. Sunday will witness participant departing from Cannery Row to the Mazda Raceway, where Motogiro America will begin.
