On Monday 23rd June, 2008 the current Indian captain and superstar Mahendra Singh Dhoni reported that the team would start all from the basics for the Asia Cup Tournament. He also felt that this cup would be a great opportunity for the youngsters to prove themselves and a challenge for the experienced players. Dhoni also said that "We will start our play from scratch in this tournament. We are not going to take any team lightly." He also felt that the loss to the Pakistan team in the final of Tri series held in the last week would give the players an extra point to think on and improve their mistakes.
"It's not a question of what you did in the past. Every day is a fresh day and we have to execute our plans well to succeed, for the reason that all the sides in the opposition are good ones and they would also like to do well," Dhoni added.
Indications were seen by the skipper that he would be promoted to the middle order batting line up so as to stabilize the run rate above 5 runs per over and not loose on too many early wickets.
The tournament will be held in Karachi, Pakistan and will be starting from the 26th June 2008.
