Monday, June 23, 2008 -- King Felix...otherwise known as Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners, hit a grand slam agains the New York Mets on Monday, June 23, 2008.
This is an important date which will go into the record books, because Felix is the first American League pitcher to hit a Grand Slam since 1971... that's 37 years ago.
Ironically.... and one in the eye for the Yankee's Steinbrenner (who complained that it was the National League's fault that his star pitcher Wang had been injured, because of their policy that pitchers hit), it was not in his home run trot around the bases that Felix was subsequently injured, but three innings later when he covered home plate on a wild pitch. He was standing on the plate when the runner slid into him, damaging his ankle.
His status is day to day.
