Golf fans and enthusiasts were amazed at the grouping that was made to start teeing off in the US Open. The group consisted of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott, all of whom ranked at number one, two and three respectively. Although most find this quite a spectacle, many experts are concerned about the consequences of such a grouping. First of all is the enormous traffic that would be gathered at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. This could take its toll on the course itself and worse, the players themselves, hampering the concentration all players need in order to perform well.
Experts are not concerned about how the media and fan frenzy would affect Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson for these two are already used to the attention. Experts are however, concerned for Adam Scott as he is still a young professional player. Everybody will be looking forward to how Adam Scott will handle the coming frenzy.
It isn't surprising for such exciting grouping to be formed during every PGA championship. In fact, the same thing happened at Medinah in 2006 where the group consisted of players Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Geoff Ogilvy. The winner during that time was Tiger Woods. This time around, even after being grouped together with talented players, Phil Mickelson came out taking the lead. While starting off quite rough on the first tee, he eventually emerged later on the back nine. The first round of the 108th US Open ended with Phil Mickelson scoring an impressive even par round 71.
