WNBA Friday late night games

Saturday, June 21, 2008 -- Friday, June 20, 2008 -- the late night games in the WNBA consisted of several good games.

The Los Angeles Sparks lost a squeaker to the San Antonio Silver Stars, 77-75.

The Silver Stars notched their fifth straight win, with big nights from Ann Wauters, who had 21 points, and Sophia Young who added 20.

The Silver Stars seemed to have been well in command ate in the 3rd quarter, with a 52-34 lead, but Candace Parker turned on the jets and brought the Sparks back to the brink of victory. However a key foul with 12.8 seconds to go at the end of the game... and two clutch foul shots by Becky Hammon, sealed the deal.

The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Chicago Sky, 112-105, in another game that went into overtime.

The Mercury needed a big game from their superstar, Diana Taurasi, and they got it. She poured in 33 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Cappie Pondexter added 31.

Candice Dupree had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Chicago.

The Seattle Storm defeated the Indiana Fever 78-70, aided by Sue Bird's contribution of 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Fever's superstar, Tamika Catchings has only recently returned from an injury that caused her to miss most of the season. She played 16 minutes and notched six points and seven rebounds.

The Connecticut Sun returned to their winning ways by defeating the Sacramento Monarchs, 72-56.

Asjha Jones had 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots to lead the Connecticut Sun. Lindsey Whalen contributed nine points, six rebounds and five assists.

For the Monarchs, high scorer was Rebekkah Brunson, with 19. She was the only Monarch to score in double figures.
