Wednesday, June 18 2008 -- The new Subaru Impreza WRC2008 is two rallies old and factory team driver, Petter Solberg, feels that the task at hand for the team's engineers is rather straightforward. The team will be looking to extract more performance from the car in time for Rally Finland.
When the Subaru World Rally Team introduced the new car at the Acropolis Rally of Greece, it mainly intended to use the event as an extension of its testing and development programme. The same was said for Rally Turkey.
Despise Solberg's cautious approach on the two events, the car has made an astonishing competitive debut. Solberg brought the car home in second place at Greece and in sixth, in Turkey.
"To be honest with you I'm very pleased," said Solberg. "First of all with the reliability of my car, we had just a couple of issues, but everything else has been okay. I took care of it - not taking big cuts, driving around the rocks, that sort of thing. I know it's quite early days yet for the car so I didn't want to risk anything, but I think the engineers know exactly where to work now with the car and the chassis. To improve this car will be quite easy I think. For now we should be quite happy with the reliability and take it on from here."
