Jacoby got greedy...

The Boston Red Sox faced the Philadelphia Phillies today, Tuesday, June 16, 2008. They took a 2-0 lead against Jamie Moyer in the first inning, and added an insurance run in the 6th inning.

In the 7th inning, Jacoby, who'd been on the bench because he doesn't bat as well against left-handers as CoCo Crisp, was inserted as a defensive replacement for Manny Ramirez.

In the 8th inning, he came up to bat, and reached base on a fielder's choice, so he was on with 2 out. He then promptly stole second base, where he was with Mike Lowell at bat.

Unfortunately, Jacoby attempted to steal third... and was thrown out.

Now Jacoby's stolen third before... but with two out... he perhaps should not have given it a try, but he was a little too over-confident.

But then, the successful base-stealer has to have the confidence to believe that he'll never get caught, and supposedly it's easier to steal third then second.

In any event, Johnathan Papelbon came in and got his save, so the Red Sox and John Lester win, 3-0.
