After only having recently won a fight against Oscar de la Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. took the press and the world aback once more as he announces his final retirement. Floyd Jr., has announced retirements in the past but has always managed to come back after several months, never more than a year. This time, however, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., stands firm about his retirement.

Many would say that it was a great move for Floyd, Jr., walking away from boxing while at the peak of his career and with an unblemished record. According to Floyd, Jr., he did not want people to look at his career but rather to be remembered like his fellow great boxers such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard and Henry Armstrong. He also stated that he not only wanted to be remembered as one of the best boxers but the best of all time.

What made Floyd, Jr., a memorable fighter was the fact that he was able to surpass the greatest fighters in his time. He was able to surpass the likes of Roy Jones and Shayne Mosley, both of whom were regarded as the best players in boxing. He even usurped the positions held by proclaimed Oscar de la Hoya and Felix Trinidad.

Though many would say that Floyd, Jr., has yet to meet a fighter just as great as him, one that would bring out his true potentials, Floyd was still able to put on a great show. Without him in the realm of boxing, the sport truly wouldn't be the same. Those who admired him and even those who hated him would truly miss his performance.
