The Toronto Maple Leafs announced the hiring of new head coach Ron Wilson yesterday, as they continue to attempt to rebuild their once proud franchise. The Leafs fired Paul Maurice after missing the playoffs in back to back seasons. Wilson was recently fired by the San Jose Sharks. Wilson had coached the Sharks to successful regular season finishes during his tenure in San Jose, but had limited success in the playoffs, most recently losing to the Dallas Stars in the second round in the 2008 postseason.
Wilson has a 518-446-127 coaching record during terms with the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose, and is third among active coaches in wins. He also played for the Maple Leafs during the 1970s.
