Joaquin To Linger On At The Mestalla

Spanish giants Valencia are set to lose several top players this summer after a disastrious season in La Liga in 2007-2008 but Joaquin shall not be one of the them.

The former Real Betis winger was signed by Valencia in 2006 for a lumpsome amount but he has achieved little success in hishis two seasons at the Mestalla. He fell foul of the former Valencia coach Ronald Koemen and was often dropped from the team.

Joaquin was being linked with a number of Premiership clubs, including Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspurs, but he told the Spanish sports daily AS that he intends to stay on at the Mestalla for the moment.

The Spanish international winger not selected for the Euro 2008 finals said:

"There is interest from several teams who want to know my future, but they must talk to my agent Juan Sanchez.

"I will just say that I feel very good here and I hope to stay for many years.

"I have always said that is my first choice because Valencia made a big investment to sign me and I owe a lot to this club."

Valencia appointed Unai Emery as their coach for next season and the former Almeria boss is doing all he can to retain all the major players at the Mestalla.
