According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Manpreet Sing Gony was a better pick over Sreesanth for the triangular series against Pakistan and Bangladesh which is starting on the 8th June 2008.
It has been a fairytale year for Manpreet Singh Gony and the latest episode is just unfolding. Gony has recently been drafted into the Indian Squad for the Bangladesh tri-series in place of Sreesanth who is playing since one year with the squad, was ruled out with a side strain.
This 6 feet 4 inch medium pacer debuted for Punjab last season claiming 13 wickets and has been on roll ever since. He finished the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was endorsed by the BCCI with 17 wickets in 16 games for Chennai and it is perhaps this performance that has helped Gony to achieve a lot in a small span of time.
Gony reported "It's a dream come true for me. I got a call from a BCCI official this morning telling me about my selection. The past year has been phenomenol. I have achieved almost everything that I wanted to. Now my aim is to perform well enough so that I can get selected for Asia cup also."
Gony also reported that he had gained a tremendous amount of experience from the IPL and also looks forward to play under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the Indian National team. Gony concluded by saying "I am happy to be selected and promise to do justice to my part."
