PadresPitching Staff Takes Another Hit.

Monday, June 2 2008 -- Apparently, the most unsafe position in the MLB this summer is to be a starter for the San Diego Padres. Chris Young is still recovering from injuries resulting off a liner from Albert Pujols which struck him in the face. Jake Peavy is supposedly due back from the DL soon, as his rehab on a strained right elbow seems to be going well.

Friday, however, the Padres lost starter Shawn Estes to a broken thumb. Estes tripped and fell in the walkway between the clubhouse and the dugout on Friday and put his throwing hand out to catch himself. There is no ligament damage, but X-rays revealed a fracture in his thumb. Estes was due to pitch today, in his first start since recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Mark Prior has also been taken out of commission for the season, as his streak of injuries continues to worsen. Prior had been rehabbing his injured right shoulder over the past two years, but after experiencing soreness in the shoulder two weeks ago, his rehab program was closed. Doctors decided to go ahead with surgery on his shoulder, ending any hope that Prior might make it back to pitch this season.
