Monday, June 2 2008 -- Doug Collins the second tenure of the Chicago Bulls may be coming back to the team as a coach this season, but there was no announcement made as such in the current pre-draft sessions. Collins who has coached the Bulls in the flying years of the 1990s said that "He would be more than happy if he gets the offer".
Collins also played a very vital role in the bringing up of the great players in NBA history like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. According to the latest meetings reported from the Bulls organization the team said there would be more talks on Collins further in the upcoming meeting sessions.
On Friday, 30th May 2008 the general manager John Paxson did not return a call to his cell phone, and Collins' representative John Langel declined comment. A message seeking comment was left Friday night on Collins' cell phone.
The Bulls have had a vacancy since interim coach Jim Boylan was fired at the end of a disappointing 33-49 season. Boylan was replaced by Scott Skiles in December after Chicago got off to a slow start following three straight playoff appearances.
Collins has a 332-287 record and was 137-109 with the Bulls from 1986-89, when Jordan and Pippen found it difficult get pass the Detroit Pistons. He was fired after leading Chicago to the Eastern Conference finals, Phil Jackson was brought in as a coach after Collins, and the Bulls went on to win six championships in the 1990s. Collins later coached Detroit's and Washington, where he was further reunited with Michael Jordon.
If Collins does return to Chicago, he won't have the game's greatest player. But he will surely have the No. 1 draft pick if the Bulls don't trade it.
