Television channel Colors is all set to bring out a new flavour to the IPL (Indian Premier League) this season. They are going to launch an hour-long musical reality show that would be broadcasted every day begore the 8 pm IPL match. The show is named IPL Rockstar and is going to be launched under the name, IPL ka Tadka.
The Colors channel belongs to the Viacom 18 group and has already managed to top the charts with serials like Balika Vadhu which receives highest TRPs. Now they are planning to cash in high bucks and more TRPs with the modern and a very musical way to promote their channel and the event altogether. The channel is planning to make the most of the IPL season with a four step program. The first step is the IPL Rockstar competition, the next step is the IPL Awards night that would be broadcasted at the end of the IPL III. Third step would be another reality show, Khatron Ke Khiladi IPL Edition wherein IPL cricketers would take part and the final step would be IPL Nights.
The IPL Rockstar is going to be hosted by famous rapper, Hard Kaur and will be a musical talent hunt competition judged by veterans, Kailash Kher and Sukhwinder Singh. Other superstars on the panel include famous Bollywood stars and IPL franchise owners, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta and Shah Rukh Khan. The show is set to premier on 13th match, 2010 and would be regularly telecasted every weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Ashwini Yardi is the CEO of the Programming department at Colors. “The audience will witness a unique marriage of the country's biggest passions - cricket and music with this differentiated programming initiative. "IPL Rockstar not only promises to raise the bar in mere conception of live entertainment for television, but also the first ever alliance between mainstream television programming and international sporting events," said Ashwini. She further added, “IPL Rockstar is a show where we are moving from the studio to the cricketing grounds in midst of real action. Here the fight is to prove yourself as a complete rockstar.”
Presently, the show is going to schedule the performances on six stadiums namely, Banglore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Mohali. Ashwini talked further about the show, “PL Rockstar will have one major difference from stereotype music reality shows. As we will be shooting in the limited timeframe, there won’t be any time for lengthy comments and drama. Performances of these contestants will matter most to win the title of IPL Rockstar.”
The concept of the show has been designed by Endemol India. It features 12 singers who, as participants, would be divided into two groups. These groups will perform alternatively on the cricket stadium in front of millions of cricket fans. The elimination format of the show is completely based upon the judgments given out by the panel of adjudicators. Deepak Dhar, the MD of Endemol India, reported to the media, “IPL Rockstar is a co-developed property and we are quite sure that it will work as it is the perfect mix of cricket, entertainment and glamour. These singers are also getting a great platform to perform in front of thousands of captive audiences."
