The second game of the Australia-West Indies series will be played at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday. The Aussies lead the series 1-0 and if the West Indians now have to live up to the expectations of their captains, they will need to win all the remaining games!
The batting in the previous game was a major letdown for the West Indian side. But due credit must be afforded to the Australian bowlers, given that they do not have their frontline bowling attack currently. What they have instead is Doug Bollinger who played rather well in India and has since become one of their leading bowlers.
They also possess Ryan Harris, who has been on a wicket-taking spree. He started with a couple of five wicket hauls, and then, had two three wicket hauls as well. The West Indian side will need to not give their wickets to the Aussie bowlers in order that they survive the early onslaught. Unfortunately, with the manner in which Chris Gayle bats at the top of the order, it is difficult to expect him to block things out.
For the Aussies, they had most of their batsmen getting starts and getting out in the previous game. That said, it is not often that the Australian batters do that, and the West Indians must be aware that the Australian batsmen will get back and score aplenty.
Unfortunately, with the kind of team that the West Indians possess, it is difficult to see them win a game here. One can only expect the shortening of 3/1 (William Hill) offered for a West Indian win, as compared to 3/10 that Stan James offers for an Aussie win. One cannot see any way that the West Indian side will be able to make it 1-1 apart from one of Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard make their innings count.
