Australia will look to extend their winning streak in the ODIs as they take on West Indies in the five match series starting tomorrow at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The under-strength West Indian side, who were already without the senior pros like Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shiv Chanderpaul have been dealt a further blow by the absence of Dwayne Bravo. The all-rounder hurt his thumb and will not be a part of this five match series.
Hence, Chris Gayle’s prediction that the side will win the series 4-1 would have definitely come as a surprise. In fact, shock would be a better word. With a young and inexperienced side like the one they have, and facing up to a team that has over the six months or so become quite strong, each game they win would be a milestone by itself.
The Aussie have won 20 out of the last 24 ODIs they have played in. This includes a series win in England, a Champions Trophy win in South Africa, a 4-2 drubbing of India and a 5-0 whitewash for Pakistan.
With a win against Pakistan in the recent T20I at the same ground it makes the task doubly difficult for West Indies to be able to overcome their opposition. Rather unsurprisingly, Australia goes into the game as heavy favourites; Sky Bet offering 1.33 for them to win the game as compared to Sporting Bet’s 3.75 for West Indies to spring a shock and go 1-0 up.
