Saturday, January 30, 2010 -- Once again, Serena and Venus Williams have displayed top performance at a Grand Slam by winning their fourth Australian Open doubles title in women’s tennis. The duo defeated Liezel Huber and Cara Black in a 6-4, 6-3 game.
The sisters broke the Huber’s serve at the opening of the second set of the game that was held on Monday, January 29. They managed to win the match after managing to break Huber again, and an end that displayed Serena’s reflex volley. After the match, the sisters were seen high-fiving each other at the end of the court – an obvious display of pleasure at their victory.
The first time the sisters won the title was back in 2001, and then added two titles in 2003 and 2009. Their opponents, Black, who comes from Zimbabwe, and Huber, an American who was born in South Africa, were the Australian Open’s title holders in 2007.
After the match, Black said, “I have to congratulate Venus and Serena for a great tournament – you guys are too good.”
The match was the 11th time that Venus and Serena combined forces to compete for a doubles title in a Grand Slam event. Serena Williams has enjoyed 11 singles major titles, and was also competing in singles. If she wins against Justine Henin, she will have a 12th title to her name.
