0-3 down in the ODI series after being whitewashed in the Tests by the same margin, Pakistan will travel to Perth to play in the final two games of the series. The fourth match will be played on Friday, as the visitors will look to make some inroads into the Aussies on the tour.
A lot of blame needs to be taken by the Pakistani for the manner in which they have batted on the tour so far. Younis Khan’s return was never supposed to bring miracles to the side, and he has struggled to get going so far. His batting has stripped the side of vital momentum in the middle, and one almost feels that there is a case for a promotion for Umar Akmal to the number three position.
However, that would mean that the likes of Younis and Mohammad Yousuf will be pushed down to numbers four and five and make things difficult for them in the later overs.
The best chance that they will have is from the fact that Australia has decided to rest Doug Bollinger and Shane Watson from the remaining games. Of course, this also means that Mitchell Johnson is back into the side and will test the Pakistanis with renewed vigour.
Ricky Ponting may be struggling for form with his elbow injury, but it is the others that Pakistan will have to worry about. Cameron White has stepped up rather well, whereas Michael Clarke has been quietly notching up the runs. With Watson out, there is a good chance that Brad Haddin may open the innings with Shaun Marsh, and Adam Voges will bat down the order as a bowling all-rounder.
Australia will be gunning for a whitewash and will be favourites to make it 4-0; Sporting Bet offering 1.44 for an Aussie win. In contrast, Ladbrokes offers 3 if Pakistan do get back into the series.
