Cabanas Shot in the Head

Salvador Cabanas, one of Club America's most prolific strikers, was shot in the head in a bar in Mexico City, at around 5:30 am on the 25th of January. Despite initial reports stating that Cabanas was brain dead, the Paraguayan footballer was very much alive when he was taken into the operation theatre and from the looks of things, will survive despite being in a critical state.

Amidst conflicting reports, the details that came out were that Cabanas, accompanied by his wife and brother-in-law, went to a popular bar in Mexico City called "Bar Bar". A Mexican "businessman", Joseph J. Balderas Garza, was said to be the prime suspect with a Cuban woman, who accompanied Garza to the place, being the cause of the shooting. The woman had, during her time at the bar, started talking to Cabanas' brother-in-law and had become quite fond of him, and not Cabanas.

However, around 5:30 am, Cabanas was discovered, covered blood but conscious, inside the toilet. Later, police studied the CCTV coverage of the place and saw Garza going into the washroom with his bodyguards. This was just moments before Cabanas was shot.

Later, the staff at Bar Bar helped Garza and his bodyguards escape.

Police are investigating the matter while Cabanas has undergone primary surgery that has kept him out of danger. However, his condition continues to remain critical as the bullet is still lodged in his brain. The clotting and bleeding around the wound were cleaned up and blocked however the doctors weren't able to remove the bullet which will take some more time to make an appearance.

Although Cabanas told everyone, before his operation, that he will bounce back from this and get back into playing condition, all hopes and prayers are aimed at his speedy recovery, something that will always take priority over his playing career.
