India easily wrapped up the first Test match against Bangladesh on the fifth and the final day at Chittagong. The 1-0 lead came about in the second session of the final day when Amit Mishra capture his fourth wicket as the side romped to a 113 run victory.
Resuming on their overnight total of 67/2, Bangladesh lost their most experienced batsman, Mohammad Ashraful rather early in the day for 27 when he edged Ishant Sharma behind the wickets. Even Raqibul Hasan did not last too long as the same bowler seemed to have got his line and length right and trapped him right in front of the wickets.
Tamim Iqbal was joined by his captain Shakib al Hasan and the pair got a partnership going. However, just before the lunch break, a sudden rush of blood saw Tamim edge a ball from Sehwag to the slips and was a goner for a well compiled 52.
Immediately after resumption, Shakib was dismissed by Amit Mishra for 17, while Mahmudullah was caught behind off Zaheer Khan without repeating his heroics from the first innings.
Mushfiqur Rahim fought off defeat for some time along with the tail, but Mishra returned to scalp the remaining three wickets and hand the hosts a defeat. Rahim had the personal pleasure of scoring a century – his first in Tests – but that could not prevent the Indians from going up 1-0.
Sachin Tendulkar’s century won him the man of the match award. The second Test will start from Sunday.
