Saturday, January 16, 2010 -- In reaction to the devastating event that ravaged Haiti, Tiger Woods plans to extend aid to help to the Haiti by supporting groups that are providing resources to children I the country.
However, according to the president of Tiger Woods Foundation, Greg McLaughlin, he has not received any communication or information from Russell Simmons, the rap mogul. Simmons had stated that Woods is providing $3 million to assist with the recovery.
McLaughlin has indicated that the foundation’s staff is currently evaluating the best method to extend aid to the Haitian citizens.
McLaughlin states, “Our plan is be part of the relief effort to help rebuild Haiti by supporting organizations that provide critical resources to young people, which is consistent with our mission and provides efforts regarding Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 tsunami.”
Woods, however, has not been sighted since the car accident that happened in November 27, and the media ruckus that focused on his extramarital affairs.
The foundation was established by Woods in 1996, the year he turned pro. It goes by its mission to “deliver unique experiences and innovative educational opportunities to youth worldwide,” and according to recent statistics, it has already reached over 10 million children.
Woods’ foundation has provided help to victims more than once in the past, such as the $100,000 of relief efforts to the tsunami victims in 2004 through Give2Asia.
