Friday, January 15, 2010 -- The Australian cricketers could end up missing the Indian Premier League of this year. This is after an Indian political party, Shiv Sena, had said that the Australian cricketers would not be welcome in the country after the atrocities done on the Indians in Australia.
This was followed by the Australian Cricketers’ Association demanding the security plan from the IPL for their players, which rejected by the tournament body, as they do not recognise the players’ association. There are a possible 25 Australian cricketers who may have to miss out on the tournament thanks to this new issue.
The issues had begun when the party’s chief, Bal Thackeray, had said that the Aussie cricketers were not welcome in Maharashtra. However, the spokesperson for the party said that they were merely agitating against what they felt was happening wrongly in Australia.
Australian cricketers are some of the star attractions for the Indians, and hence the Indian Premier League. So, it is difficult to visualise a tournament without them, and it is bound to lose sheen.
The Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said that there was sufficient time to sort the issue out between now and when the IPL actually begins.
