Friday, May 23 2008 -- The Red Wings got some good news on Thursday, as the leading goalscorer of the 2008 postseason, Johan Franzen, was cleared to skate by team doctors. Franzen has been out with concussion-like symptoms since Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. He had complained of some pain during the previous series with the Colorado Avalanche, but had continued to play.
The return of Franzen should provide a boost to the Wings' already potent offense. He has 27 goals in his last 27 games, dating back to the regular season. His 12 playoff tallies still lead all skaters, despite the fact that "The Mule" has only played in 11 games.
Franzen has scored goals in all situations for the Wings this postseason, including 5 game winners, 5 powerplay goals and 2 shorthanded markers. His 15 points and +9 rating have been crucial to the team's success and the sooner he returns, the better. Franzen remains listed as "doubtful" for Game 1.
