Wednesday, May 21 2008 -- It's unfortunate that the WNBA (that'd be the Women's National Basketball Association!) has started its season in the shadow of the NBA finals.

I've got to admit that I don't usually watch the NBA throughout the regular season - I check the scores of my teams, the Celtics and the Pistons, and that's about it. (I'm actually a Minnesota Timberwolves fan - but Kevin Garnett is with the Celtics and Flip Saunders and Chaucy Billups are with Detroit and I can't stand to watch the Timberwolves anymore...)

But when playoffs come around, then I watch.

With the WNBA, it's different. That season is a significantly shorter one, and therefore every game matters - teams really can't afford to lose one.

It's also fun to see the stars that I'd watched in college games explode on the WNBA stage - as witness Lady Vols star Candace Parker's spectacular debut.

The NBA has a few weeks to go...but the WNBA is goin' on too, and you should check it out.
