Grant Dismissed Drogba Speculation

Chelsea star striker Didier Drogba has come under severe speculation of moving out of Stamford Bridge this summer. He has consistently been linked with a move to the Italian giants AC Milan before the start of next season.

But Chelsea manager Avram Grant has unconditionally dismissed all those rumours. The Israeli says that Didier Drogba is happy playing for the London Blues and all the reports in the newspapers suggesting that the Ivory Coast international is moving out are only speculation.

Grant says:

"I didn't see all the reports, I need to see them all and then I can answer you.

"I didn't see the paper, but you know what the papers are like. In the papers there are so many things, I need to check with my players what is fact and what is not.

"Up to now we have bought 600 players, and this player said this and these players have said that, for me it is more important that the players are part of the team and can deal with this.

"They are very committed, work hard and are positive, I like them. What happens off the pitch, you know what papers are like."

Avram Grant is also quite confident on his own future at the club. Chelsea narrowly lost the Premiership title on the last day of the league season last weekend but can compensate that loss but defeating Manchester United in the final of the UEFA Champions League next week in Moscow, one trophy that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho failed to deliver.

Grant says:

"I find it [the speculation] strange because I have a contract for four years, even though it is a contract between friends [owner Roman Abramovich], we don't involve friendship in our business.

"It is a contract as a manager. I have a contract for four years, I don't think they need to come to me every two weeks and say that I can continue, I can continue, I can continue, etc.

"If I had a contract for one year then it would be okay. It doesn't bother me. It happens in football, sometimes the coach doesn't like the team, sometimes the team doesn't like the coach. Maybe they should tell me every two weeks that I should continue."

Granted, Grant is right but let us wait and watch.
