Ganguly may take up cricket administration

Thursday, July 9, 2009 -- Former Indian captain and left-handed stylish batsman, Sourav Ganguly, has said that he may want to join the cricket administration of his hometown, Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta). He has, however, yet to come out with when he would want to get going with the same. He also said that he hoped that the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) would understand where was coming from and welcome his interest in helping his state cricket out.

Talking to an Indian newspaper, Ganguly said, “At some point, I will find a way to get into the CAB where people have known me since I was a kid.”

There have been talks about Ganguly taking on his former mentor, and the current President of CAB, Jagmohan Dalmiya. When Ganguly was the captain, Dalmiya had been the President of the BCCI, but then there was a fallout between the two. Dalmiya’s man, Ranbir Singh Mahendra lost his post as the President to Sharad Pawar and this was followed by the ouster of Ganguly as the captain.

Ganguly’s elder brother, Snehashish said, “I don’t think he will be contesting this year. If that would have been case, it would have been known to us. But eventually he would get into cricket administration”
