Tuesday, July 7, 2009 -- It’s Williams who won, Serena to be exact.
Serena Williams took the Women’s Singles Championship title on Saturday at Center Court, from her defending champion sister Venus Williams who is the only other woman on the court who has the same power and strength as she has. This is Serena’s third Wimbledon Championship title. The other two was at 2002 and 2003 finals at the All England Club.
The sisters played a tight game in the first set ending in 7-6. Venus had several double faults while Serena was making aces at 105 mph and 116 mph. She wrapped up the game in victory at 6-2 in the second set.
"She played so well, really lifted her game,"'' Venus said. "''I had an error here and there. Today, I couldn't make errors."
This was probably because of the big bandage she has on her left knee. But Venus refused to put the blame there.
After the game, Serena extended a handshake to her sister, but Venus pulled her for a hug instead.
"I didn't think about Venus at all today. I just saw her as an opponent,"'' said Serena. ''"At one point, after the first set, I looked on the side of the court at the stats, and it was like 'Williams,' 'Williams.' I couldn't figure out which was which."
