AS Roma beat Atalanta 2-1 on Sunday in the Italian Serie A and the result leaves them just a single point off defending champions Inter Milan. Which implies that Inter would have to win their last match in the league this season next weekend.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is of course in a buoyant mood after the match and insists that Roma deserve to be in such a rosy position as they are now. Spalletti is also confident that Roma can win the scudetto this season.

He says:

"We were comfortably the best team in the second half of the season. We deserved this opportunity to fight it out until the end.

"I say this based on everything we have done in this championship. Now we just have to carry on this way.

"The injuries or negative moments you can run into during a campaign can happen to anyone. Yet in the second half of the season we were comfortably the best team with the best results.

"It is well known that in football there are dangers hidden where you don't expect them. It has been a long and tiring season."

At one point in the season, Roma were a massive 7 point off leaders Inter Milan and even though they might not win the scudetto this season, they would still hail this season as a successful one.
