Sunday, June 28, 2009 -- FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has declared that Premier League cashbag Manchester City have made a huge offer for their star striker Samuel Eto'o.
Eto'o has been linked with a summer move away from Camp Nou since the end of the 2008-2009 season last month and has been linked with a host of clubs. Italian champions Inter Milan, Premier League superpowers Chelsea and Manchester City have been heavily linked with the former Real Mallorca striker.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now admitted that City have made a 'monster offer' for the Cameroonian international striker and has hinted that it would be difficult to turn down this offer. Sky Sports quotes Laporta as saying:
“[The offer would] Convert Eto’o into the best paid player in the world. It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay, but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse. If Eto’o accepts this stratospheric offer, we would have to bring in someone.”
It is understood that if Eto'o leaves Barcelona this summer, then the Spanish and European champions would bring in David Villa from Valencia.
