Sunday, June 28, 2009 -- FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes that [[Lionel Messi][ and not either Pele or Diego Maradona is the best player in football history.
Messi is arguably the finest player in the world at the moment and at 22 can only get better. The Barcelona star is said to be the heir apparent of his Argentine compatriot Diego Maradona and has won the Spanish league and the UEFA Champions League already in his career.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes that Messi, and not Pele or Diego Maradona, is the best player in football history. It's been reported that when asked to choose between Pele, Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane as to who the greatest footballer in the world is, Laporta replied, “[Lionel] Messi is the best in history.”
