Friday, June 26, 2009 -- Portuguese giants Benfica have completed the signing of the Argentine international Javier Pedro Saviola from Real Madrid for 5 million euros.
Saviola was signed by Madrid in the summer of 2007 on a free transfer but the now 27-year-old never managed to play regularly for the Blancos. He was linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer but it was thought to be a loan move.
But Benfica have decided to sign the former River Plate star on a permanent basis, paying Madrid a total of 5 million euros. Saviola would now team up with his former River Plate buddy Pablo Aimar at the Portuguese club.
