Friday, June 26, 2009 -- Its settled then!!! The FIA and FOTA finally reached a settlement on the issue that threatened the future of Formula One in 2010 and beyond. With the teams agreeing to continue in the sport after Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone decided to give in to the demands of the FOTA, things seem to be returning back to normal after what the FIA bigwigs termed as a "compromise".
For the FIA, the term "compromise" is more of a way to console themselves at a time when the entire media and the watching world sees it as a direct and outright win for the Formula One Teams Association. Not only do FOTA end up with all they wanted, which includes no budget caps or regulatory changes, they might also get an FIA without Max Mosley at the helm.
Max Mosley announced that he won't be a part of the election process after this term and plans to step down immediately. However, after a press conference held by the FOTA where they informed the media that Mosley would not be involved in FIA anymore and that Michel Boeri would be taking over the helm, Mosley came out in fury and informed the media that there has been no such arrangement and that the FOTA must apologize for misinforming the media. In case there isn't an apology forthcoming, then Mosley will turn back on his offer to step down.
Mosley has yet to receive such an apology from Luca di Montezemolo although what he has received is a lot of praise from the Ferrari man.
Whether things are settled in the soap opera of egos that ensues between Ferrari and Mosley, there is one thing that's guaranteed to happen - Scuderia Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota F1, Red Bull and the rest of the pack will be ready at Melbourne in 2010 at the beginning of the Formula One season with their entire team-structure intact.
