Thursday, June 25, 2009 -- Phil Mickelson, the world’s no. 2 wanted to win his first U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, but he looked like his heart was not in the tournament, he didn’t seem devastated as he should have been.
"I'm certainly disappointed, but now that it's over, I've got more important things going on and, oh, well," he said, putting his U.S. open disaster behind very quickly, Monday.
However, there are some, who believes that Mickelson’s public statements aren’t always honest and correct. Some of their interpretations may be true, but his wife, Amy, has been by his side, always ready to share his joy of victory and the sorrows of his defeats.
Mrs. Mickelson is 39 years old, the mother of their three children, and has been diagnosed with bread cancer. She will be having an exploratory surgery on July 1. The wait is the worst part of it all as it intensifies the feeling of helplessness.
"A lot of ups and downs, and I think now that we're going to get started here in about 10 days, I think that once we get going it might be a little bit easier," he said, "The wait has been difficult."
The Mickelsons are seriously facing life and death, putting golf last on their list of priorities.
