Madrid-based Spanish sports daily Marca reports that La Liga champions Real Madrid shall land Liverpool star Xabi Alonso before the start of the European Champions in June. Marca reports that Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has given the go-ahead to Alonso to sign for any club that he wants to and it seems that the Spanish international midfielder has opted for Real Madrid.

Xabi Alonso has been in and out of the Liverpool team this season and has been speculated to take his leave from Anfield at the end of the season. Italian giants Juventus too have been in the hunting for the Spaniard but Alonso has long been held to a be a massive admirer of the Merengues.

Real Madrid might have just won their second successibe La Liga crowns but they are already looking for reinforcements for next season to launch a serious fight for the UEFA Champions League, which they haven't won since 2002.
