Rijkaard Accepts Blame

FC Barcelona have had a torried season this time too and they have already done with outgoing coach Frank Rijkaard. Club president Joan Laporta declared on Friday that Rijkaard shall leave Camp Nou at the end of the season and shall be replaced at the Barcelona helm by Josep Guardiola.

So what are the thoughts of Frank Rikjaard who has been at Barcelona for five years and has won five major trophies with the Blaugrana, including 2 La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2006?

Let's hear them now. Rijkaard says to the Madrid based Spanish sports daily Marca:

"If someone wants to applaud then they should applaud everyone, the club the players and so on.

"We have not achieved what we had planned at the beginning and so if there are whistles then they will also be for me because I am a part of this group.

"We are all in the same boat and thus I am no exception.

"It’s not often that someone leaves the Camp Nou on neutral terms and I just hope that my exit goes smoothly without it being either a positive or a negative thing.

"I have worked at this club for five years and I have given my heart in all the work that I did and I have always respected everyone."

Truly gracious and generous, that man Frank Rijkaard.

Any thoughts on your replacement, Frank?

"I have plenty of respect for Guardiola and I am sure that he will do very well, he is doing some excellent things at the moment and I think he is going to be great."

Just as Frank Rijkaard became great at Barcelona.
