IPL Sixes

The inaugural IPL witnessed a record number of sixes in the whole tournament with an astounding 107 sixes coming in the opening nine games.

Among the big hitters was Robin Uthappaof Mumbai Indians who hit the hundredth six of the series against the Chennai Superkings bowler Jacom Oram. The Mumbai Indians contributed an additional 7 hits in the match which came from Harbhajan Singh who hit 3 and Shaun Pollock and Abhishek Nayar.

The New Zealand national and Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Brendon McCullum hit a whooping 13 sixes in the opening match of the league, equaling the record with fellow national Craig McMillan of most sixes hit in the T20 format.

The Chennai Super Kings recorded 16 sixes against Kings XI Punjab which include 10 hits from Australian Michael Hussey alone.

World T20 South Africa

Apart from the IPL, the T20 world cup in South Africa witnessed 255 sixes in 27 matches. It also featured Yuvraj Sing’s incredible display of six sixes in an over against English bowler Stuart Broad. Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa also came through with six sixes in six balls in the tournament.
