Saturday, May 3 2008 -- Real Madrid have virtually wrapped up the Spanish league title and are already looking forward to signing new players in the summer. Both president Ramon Calderon and coach Bernd Schuster knows that they need to steel their defence and maybe that is why they are looking to sign the Portuguese international central defender Ricardo Carvalho.
Carvalho is currently playing for Chelsea and Catalan sports daily Sport reports that the Real Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic was in London earlier this week. The sports daily suggests that Mijatovic actually went to talk to Carvalho's agent Jorge Mendes, who is also the representative of the Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid do need a defender since they have consistently leaked goals and with Fabio Cannavaro not recovering his vintage World Cup form, it is time to seek players from abroad. Should Ricardo Carvalho indeed join Real in the summer, it could just solve Real's headache in the defensive department.
