Tuesday, May 12, 2009 -- Lorena Ochoa had a week off, but it definitely did not slow her down. And Lindsey Wright was feeling the same way she did before her vacation and a month away from the game.
Two weeks ago, Ochoa left of winning in her native Mexico with eight birdies against one bogey which was held on a Thursday. She had a 7-under 64 that gave her a one-shot lead over Wright after the first round of the Michelob Ultra Open.
Ochoa, who was a three-time runner-up in the event, says “this is only the start, we have three more days. Let’s take things one at a time”.
While Wright, who was a non-winner in the five seasons hadn’t played since she finished fourth in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. This was the seasons first major in the first week of April.
Hee-Won-Han, Sarah Lee and Minea Blomqvist shared the rank of third place, with shots of 66. A 67s was scored by Seon Hwa Lee, Na Yeon Choi and Amy Yang while the 2007 champion, Suzann Pettersen scored 68 among the seven.
All in all, 45 players out of the 144 took great advantage of the soft greens and broke par. The tournament was a success and though a few rains had caused some distractions, it still didn’t take on the whole event.
