Saturday, April 26 2008 -- Levante players have finally reached a solution with their beleaguered club bosses and have decided to call off their strike. On April 17, the players threatened that they would go on striker this weekend if their wages and bonuses were not paid.
To be honest, it is the club directors and men-in-suits who are at fault here. They haven't paid the playes for months and everyone knows that some of these players even had to sell their cars to sustain themselves. Credit cards of some of the Levante players were seized and bank assets were frozen.
Now though it appears that the dreaded players' strike has been alled off. Levante captain Luis Rubiales told this to Cadena Ser in the early hours of Saturday:
"We finally have a solution. I think it is good for everyone."
This implies that Levante's away match against Recreativo de Huelva on Sunday will be played out.
