Arsenal Deny Villa Approach But Not Interest

A tremendous round of speculation was flared up last week when the Valencia striker David Villa said that the English team that most interested him was Arsenal and there have been a plethora of reports linking the 26-year old Spanish international striker to the Emirates in the summer.

Arsenal have of course denied any links with the player and their manager Arsene Wenger has done something similar now too. But not quite so very exactly the same.

Wenger says that he finds Villa's comments about his team's football style very flattering but refuses to admit that the Gunners have been in contact with the player. Wenger says:

"It is a nice compliment. But, for the moment, there is nothing.

"Who are we going to sign? It has not been decided yet.

"I have a list where there is a number one, a number two, a number three and a number four for each position we want to strengthen.

"We have money, just not as much as the papers say because that is not true."

Real Madrid and Chelsea too are tracking David Villa and it is more likely that the Spanish hotshot will move to either of these two clubs than to Arsenal at the end of the season.
