Harris makes to All Star

Saturday, January 31, 2009 -- Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets has been chosen amongst the reserves for the 58th NBA All-Star game. He received 1,182,406 votes while Vince Carter, his 8-time All-Star teammate, received 57,207 more votes. Lawrence Frank, the coach of the Nets, remarked that if only one player is to be selected, then he favors Harris. The reason is that Carter has played in the All-Star 8 times and hence Frank thinks that Harris should get the experience of playing in an All-Star game. Moreover, Carter would be happy for Harris.

Criteria for selection

The reserves for the All-Star game are selected by the coaches on the basis of the fact that who is more deserving. However, there might be a new-media issue in this process. In the previous fall, Harris was seen in a YouTube video due to which he became an Internet sensation. In this video, he was challenged by a fan in London. There have been more than 4 million views of this video. In the previous season, Chris Bosh of the Raptors made this trend popular. In the current year,Amare Stoudemire of the Suns has made a series of podcasts. Interestingly, all these three players are All-Stars in 2009.

When Harris heard the news of his selection, he could not cease smiling. Carter commented that Harris was glowing bright. Carter endorsed Harris’s reaction and said that when he recollects his first year of selection, he understands that one gets so thrilled that it cannot be decided whether to dance or play it cool.
