Basketball is a game that almost everyone can enjoy. You can play it, watch it as a spectator or fan or do both. It doesn’t matter if you are a female or a male, basketball can be the game for you.
There are leagues for children just beginning grade school. Teams may be formed by parents or by organizations like the YMCA. Coaches can also be parents or any older youth or adult who knows something about the game.
Kids play pick-up games in parks, driveways and rec centers. Anywhere there is a hoop and a ball, basketball can be played. Basketball is a game that is played by kids who live in inner cities as well as kids who live in more affluent areas. Skills are developed as kids play and also by working with parents and coaches.
As kids become teens the game sometimes becomes more competitive and the players take it more seriously. It can become tough to make a high school team whether you are a boy or a girl and this is the time that clinics, camps and extra training becomes even more important.
College-level basketball is also very competitive and if a player is talented enough, scholarships are a possibility. People playing at the college level are expected to work hard and dedicate a lot of time to training and playing.
The professional basketball leagues are popular and the players are well-paid. Basketball takes up most of their lives year-round and they pack the fans in when they play. Fans have their favorite teams and some never miss a home game. Other fans travel far and wide to see their team play and ticket prices are sometimes quite high.
If you can't afford the professional games and you love the sport you have several options. You can watch high school games or city rec games. For those who are older and still want to play, there are many leagues that have players of all ages and skill levels. There are also games on T.V. on a regular basis several months out of the year.
So, basketball fans, take your pick; watch it, coach it or play it!
