Sunday, December 28, 2008 -- Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. – Next year, it is expected that there will be lesser number of tournaments in PGA Tour’s Fall Series.
Economic reverses brought about by the real estate crisis was faulted for PGA Tour’s decision to decrease the number of tours come fall. From seven tournaments this year’s Falls Series, the tour announced that it will only keep five for 2009.
The Falls Series will commence a week after the end of the FedEx Cup. It will begin with Turning Stone and would give way for a week for the Presidents Cup in Francisco from October 8 to 11. The Falls Series will then continue starting in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Mississippi and Florida. It will end on November 15, 2009 at Disney World, which is the same way it ended in 2008.
What was deleted from the schedule of the Falls Series was the Ginn sur Mer Classic, which used to be the first tour during the season’s first week. Also removed from the falls Series was the Valero Texas Open, which was moved during spring time to replace the former Atlanta tournament.
So far, two tournaments were omitted from the 2009 PGA tour reducing it to 46 from this year’s 48. However, negotiations are still up to insert another tournament to be played on Sea Island, Georgia before Disney World.
