Sunday, April 20 2008 -- Middlesbrough have 36 points from 35 matches in the Premiership and lost to Bolton Wanderers at home on Saturday. Boro manager Gareth Southgate admits that they are still nervously looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone.
Boro are mathematically not safe yet from the dreaded drop into the Championship but it is unlike that Southgate's men would do down. However Southgate insists that he will not heave a sigh of relief until relegation has been mathematically avoided:
"We had enough chances to have the game under control at half-time (against Bolton Wanderers).
"Our attitude was right and we were up for it and were the better side for 45 minutes, but their keeper kept them in it and they have him to thank.
"In the second-half, Bolton came flying out the traps and we never threatened them. We weren't clever enough with our football.
"Until you are mathematically safe you have to be ready for every eventuality and we have to respond to this defeat."
But somehow you do feel that Middlesbrough will escape the drop for this time at least!
