Tuesday, December 23, 2008 -- Mark Greatbatch has been assigned the post of “an advisor to the national selection panel” by the New Zealand Cricket. He is also the coach of the elite emerging players of Central Districts which is a domestic side in the country. Now, he has been given the task of over viewing the progress of the cricketers at the domestic level in New Zealand.
Greatbatch has the valuable experience of playing as a batsman in the New Zealand national cricket team from 1988 to 1996. He has an additional experience of an academy director and coach at Warwickshire. Considering the above, Glenn Turner, the present selection panel manager commented that “Mark has wide experience of playing and coaching at home and abroad. He will be getting around the grounds to keep an eye on the form of players coming through – his advice will be a huge asset to the selection process.” Turner added that the inputs which would be offered by Greatbatch would be of immense use to the selectors to have a consummate monitoring of the cricketers in the nation.
Greatbatch said that the new role offered to him was sufficiently exciting and he was looking forward to creating depth at the top level of the sport. He commented that “There’s a lot of young, exciting talent coming through the state competitions right now. Part of my role will be to help identify and develop that talent so that there’s a strong pool of players knocking hard on the door for national selection.”
