Tuesday, December 23, 2008 -- Steve Nash, the captain of Phoenix Suns, is busy dealing with the management’s decision to trade his best friends. These are Shaquille O’Neal and Amare Stoudemire. Among the two, O’Neal can leave the team when his contract is over and he has a deal which is due to begin in 2010. On the other hand, Stoudemire can test the market and the other teams can find him a good player to accept hence the management of the Suns must address his issue before losing him for nothing. Nash’s contract would also be over in 2010 and as he is disappointed over the management’s decision of trading the above two players, it can be gauged that he would also shift to another team. In a nutshell, it seems that the Suns roster is being broken up.
It is not significant whether the changes occurring in the Suns are intentional or otherwise. Robert Sarver, the owner of the Suns, appointed Steve Kerr as the general manager with a view that Kerr has a great basketball mind and he would be able to stop the Suns run of coming up short. In a way, there were great expectations from O’Neal. When the Suns were led by Jason Richardson, they started with a strong 1-0 record. However, when Richardson debuted, O’Neal was off on bereavement leave. It is expected that O’Neal would grace the current roster by his huge presence and play in approximately two out of three regular season games during the rest of his contract and also participate in the playoffs.
