Last week Chelsea manager Avram Grant remarked that he has kept the prospect of importing Kaka or Lionel Messi in the summer and now ahead of the Blues' UEFA Champions League tie with Liverpool on Tuesday, the Israeli states that he would love to have Steven Gerrard too in his team.
Liverpool confront Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday in the first leg of the semi-final tie and the Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard could miss the match due to a neck strain. He didn't play against Fulham in the Premiership on Saturday.
Grant says that he would love to have Gerrard in his team and adds that he is his favourite player. The Israeli says:
"A great player and a great person, for me the player of the year in England and maybe in Europe because of the influence he has on the team.
"He is a nice guy, a positive guy and he is an example for many people. Unfortunately he plays against me not with me, but he is still my favourite player.
"I'm not surprised about him playing up with [Fernando] Torres. In that position he probably feels more free.
"He has the quality to play in any position. But he is not my player. If you can bring him to me, I will be happy!"
Remember the 2005 summer fiasco, that will-he-won't-he debate with Gerrard almost joining Chelsea only to make a U-turn back to Liverpool? Well, I guess you do get the idea this time again!
