Thursday, November 27, 2008 -- Premier League title contenders Liverpool look set to miss key striker Fernando Torres for at least two weeks after it was revealed on Thursday that he had picked up a knock during Wednesday's UEFA Champions League encounter with French side Marseille.
Torres complained of tightness in his hamstring right after the game and subjected himself to medical tests at Liverpool's medical ground Melwood on Thursday.
Doctors then confirmed that the Spanish international striker was suffering from a strain in his right hamstring and that he shall be out of action for between two and three weeks. A Liverpool club spokesman said on Thursday evening:
"Fernando has a strain in his right hamstring and will be out of action for between two and three weeks."
Liverpool shall also miss their Brazilian left-back Fabio Aurelio for a few games. The former Valencia player has been impaled with a calf strain and he too shall be out of action for at least a couple of weeks.
The club spokesman said:
"Fabio has a calf strain in his left leg and will be out for two weeks."
