There has been tremendous speculation over Chelsea manager Avram Grant in the last few weeks and the bookies area happy to place their money on the Israeli getting the sack at the end of the season.

But the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon says that there is no reason why Avram Grant should be fired and insists that the club is happy with the progress that the team has made under Grant since the Israeli took over the managerial duty from Jose Mourinho in September.

Kenyon affirms:

"The club is developing under Avram. We are not doing badly on the pitch and aren't going to jump to conclusions because of occasional losses.

"The manager has a long-term contract with the club and we hope he will see it through to the end.

"Grant took over in September and signed a four-year deal. There is no reason to talk about his possible departure."

Yet Chelsea haven't played the fantasy football that club owner Roman Avramovich wants to enjoy and the current playing pattern is still in the mould of the Mourinho paragon. So maybe Kenyon is just trying to hold water until the end of the season.
